In this second report on the State of Food and Agriculture, an attempt is made to appraise the current situation against the background of longer-term trends and to focus attention on a very few broad issues which will require consideration and action by governments.



Consumption and nutritional levels

INFORMATION ON FOOD CONSUMPTION given in The State of Food and Agriculture, 1948 has been brought up to date for as many countries as possible, and one or two countries have been added. In addition to the usual reservations concerning such estimates, it must be emphasized that the 1948/49 figures are necessarily provisional, since the full information is not yet on hand.
