Humanitarian and special economic assistance

In 2015, the United Nations, through the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, continued to mobilize and coordinate humanitarian assistance to respond to international emergencies. Humanitarian appeals were launched for Afghanistan, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, Chad, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, the Gambia, Iraq, Libya, Mali, Mauritania, Myanmar, the Niger, Nigeria, the Occupied Palestinian Territory, South Sudan, the Sahel Region, Senegal, Somalia, the Sudan, Syria, Ukraine, Yemen, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Vanuatu and Nepal. Four large-scale crises, in Iraq, South Sudan, Syria and Yemen, were classified as Level-3 emergencies requiring the immediate scaling-up of the response.
