While much of the world was focused on making the transition to a decarbonized, sustainable economy, the COVID-19 pandemic hit the world suddenly and unexpectedly. As the global economy slid into a lockdown, the sustainable energy transition lost importance temporarily. Now that most economies are emerging, governments are focused on driving a sustainable socioeconomic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, but there is an endemic issue which must be addressed.
