The UNCTAD Working Group on Measuring E-commerce and the Digital Economy (WGECDE) is an international forum to advance cooperation on measuring electronic commerce (e-commerce) and the digital economy and enhance the availability, quality, comparability, usability, and relevance of related statistics, with a view to supporting evidence-based policymaking, especially in developing countries. Since its inception in 2019, the group has had a strong focus on the need to develop statistics and evidence on the economic value of e-commerce (UNCTAD, 2019). More broadly, UNCTAD has a mandate to support countries in measuring e-commerce and the digital economy through developing statistical guidelines and complementary capacity building and technical assistance activities.
