United nations economic commission for Europe

The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), established in 1947, is one of five regional commissions of the United Nations. Its objective is to promote pan-European economic integration by strengthening economic relations and multilateral cooperation among its 56 member States located in Western, Central and Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, Central Asia and North America. UNECE’s programme of work covers the following sectors: economic cooperation and integration, energy, environment, housing and land management, population, statistics, timber, trade, and transport. The organization also gives focus within the UNECE region to the United Nations’ global mandates in the economic field.
