The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are the United Nations’ blueprint to achieving a better and more sustainable future for all. Agenda 2030 and the SDGs succeed and broaden the mandates established in the United Nations’ Millennium Development Goals. The SDGs address the key global challenges, including those related to poverty, inequality, climate, environmental degradation, prosperity, and peace and justice. The Goals interconnect and aim to leave no one behind. They can be categorized by their central relevance for people (SDGs 1,2,3,4 and 5), prosperity (SDGs 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11) and planet (SDGs 6, 12, 13, 14 and 15), with two SDGs (16 – peace and justice, and 17 – partnerships) defining an enabling framework for implementation. The success of their implementation will be evaluated through a set of predefined 167 SDG targets. The achievement for each Goal is set for 2030 and will be measured through 169 targets-indicators.
