This Recommendation lays foundations for the coded representation of names of locations related to trade and transport (e.g. ports, airports, inland clearance depots and freight terminals, places of receipt and delivery, etc.). Codes are available for information exchange between stakeholders as alternatives to full names of the location, which can be very different in various languages. It establishes the methodology to create and maintain these location codes, whose names need to be unambiguously quoted in data interchange.
