Active in Tanzania since 1975, UNFPA is implementing its eighth country programme 2016-2021. Aiming to ‘leave no one behind’, based on the principle of ‘reaching the furthest behind first’, UNFPA’s programme beneficiaries include women, young people, including adolescent girls, marginalized populations, and those seeking refuge in Tanzania, with a focus on districts with poor sexual and reproductive health and rights indicators. The five-year country programme supports the Government of Tanzania’s Five-Year Development Plan and the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar’s Strategy for Growth and Reduction of Poverty III, in alignment with the respective National Visions, the Sustainable Development Goals, the United Nations Development Assistance Plan II, and UNFPA’s 2018-2021 Strategic Plan.
