In 2017 and early 2018, the global shipping industry saw a marked improvement of fundamentals in most market segments, with the exception of the tanker market. Key drivers were the combined strengthening in global demand, on the one hand, and the reduced fleet growth, on the other. Overall, freight rates improved across all markets in 2017, with the exception of tankers.
