In 2012, the new four-year intersessional work programme (2012-2015) for the Biological Weapons Convention began. The work programme retained the mandate of the two previous work programmes, specifically to “discuss, and promote common understanding and effective action” on specific topics related to improving the implementation of the Convention. Additionally, the new programme addressed three Standing Agenda Items to be discussed annually: cooperation and assistance; a review of developments in the field of science and technology; and strengthening national implementation.
