Law of the sea

An important step in the ongoing global process to strengthen the international legal order for the world’s oceans was taken in 1995 with the adoption of the Agreement for the Implementation of the Provisions of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea relating to the Conservation and Management of Straddling Fish Stocks and Highly Migratory Fish Stocks. The General Assembly called on States and other entities to sign and ratify or accede to the Agreement.
