Women at work

This chapter explores the status of women in the ‘workplace’ – a term that must be understood in the African context to extend from the home to the boardroom; from unpaid labour and caregivers to owners of African companies; from market sellers and smallscale entrepreneurs in local communities to large companies engaged in cross-border and international trade; and from women with no formal training to women with advanced degrees and important positions in government, academia and the private sector.
