The population estimates and projections by sex and age group for each of the 20 countries of Latin America for the period 1950-2100 were prepared by the Latin American and Caribbean Demographic Centre (CELADE)-Population Division of ECLAC in conjunction or in consultation with national institutions, using the components method. However, the figures presented may differ from each country’s official estimates. This is because CELADE-Population Division of ECLAC performs long-term projections that seek to analyse the population impacts of demographic changes using particular criteria, which are not necessarily the same as those employed for the national figures. Listed below are the information sources considered in the process of estimating demographic dynamics.
