The inflationary pressure arising from large defence expenditure and budgetary deficit during the period under review was in a large measure offset by United States aid imports, as well as by increased production made possible mainly through local efforts in developing industry and agriculture and through the import of capital equipment and raw materials under government procurement and the US aid programme.
