Production of manufactures has been concentrated in Japan, India and China, this concentration becoming even more pronounced during 1951. In relation to both 1950 and pre-war levels, manufacturing capacity increased more in Japan than in India or China, and more in all three countries than in the rest of the region. In most of the other countries, industrial recovery and development during the year was steady and appreciable, but the industries concerned were mainly cottage and smallscale industries and those processing foodstuffs and raw materials; largescale manufacturing production remained relatively unimportant in the regional totals.
