Economic and social questions

During 1978, United Nations bodies continued to consider action on several major decisions adopted during the Second United Nations Development Decade (the 1970s) by the General Assembly relating to a development strategy and the establishment of a new international economic order, including: the 1974 Declaration and Programme of Action on the Establishment of a New International Economic Order, adopted at the sixth special session; the Charter of Economic Rights and Duties of States, adopted later that year; a 1975 resolution on development and international economic co-operation; and a 1977 resolution on the convening of a special session of the Assembly in 1980 to assess the progress made towards the establishment of the new international economic order and to take the necessary action, including the adoption of a new strategy for the next United Nations development decade (the 1980s).
