The Philippine economy has seen several years of robustness, with an average annual GDP growth of over 6 percent in recent years. The Philippines ranks 116th out of 188 countries in the Human Development Index (medium human development) and 96th in the Gender Inequality Index. The country also has one of the highest levels of inequality in South East Asia and, despite recent reductions, poverty stills stands at 21.6 percent, affecting 22 million people.
