Summary of the conclusions of the Chairpersons of the Global Education Ministers Conference on addressing hate speech though education

In June 2019, António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, launched a strategy to enhance the United Nations response to the global phenomenon of hate speech. As part of the implementation of the United Nations Strategy and Plan of Action on Hate Speech, the Secretary-General invited UNESCO and the United Nations Office on Genocide Prevention and the Responsibility to Protect (OSAPG) to convene a Global Education Ministers Conference on addressing hate speech through education, held online on 26 October 2021. The recommendations for the way forward are outlined below, as prepared by the two Chairpersons of the Conference Ms Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, and H.E. Mr Hage Gottfried Geingob, President of Namibia.
