Предисловие
Подготовка обзора результативности экологической деятельности Узбекистана началась в мае 2000 года (первая подготовительная миссия), после чего в декабре 2000 года последовала вторая подготовительная миссия, в ходе которой была определена окончательная структура доклада. Впоследствии была создана группа по обзору, состоящая из международных экспертов. В нее вошли эксперты из Армении, Германии, Дании, Польши, Российской Федерации, Франции, Хорватии и Эстонии, а также эксперты из секретариата Европейской экономической комиссии Организации Объединенных Наций (ЕЭК ООН) и Европейского центра ВОЗ по вопросам окружающей среды и здоровья (ЕЦОСЗ/ВОЗ).

Устойчивое управление водными ресурсами и их охрана
Узбекистан, как и большинство соседних государств, расположен зо внутреннем водосборном бассейне Аральского моря, где они деляг трансграничные воды. Нехватка пресной воды, как з настоящее время, так и в будущем, будет предстазлять наибольшую проблему окружающей среды, так как зода является ключевым ресурсом для орошения кизкопродуктивкых солончаковых земель для сельскохозяйственного пронззодстза. Сброс ко л л екторно-дренажных зод з реки и неэффективные системы очистки сточных вод приводят к ухудшению качества водных ресурсов и увеличению солености воды.
