The 2022 edition of the Economic Survey of Latin America and the Caribbean outlines the region’s economic performance in 2021 and analyses trends in the early months of 2022 as well as the outlook for growth for the year. It examines the external and domestic factors that have influenced the region’s economic performance in 2021 trends for 2022 and how these factors will affect economic growth in the coming years. This edition also presents some of the main challenges the region faces in investing for sustainable and inclusive economic growth. It analyses the trends in total investment over the last 70 years and highlights the profound change brought about by the 1980s debt crisis with a slowdown in investment from the 1990s onwards.

It examines external and domestic factors that have influenced the region’s economic performance and draws attention to macroeconomic policy challenges. Part II analyses the characteristics of the current economic cycle in the region (2009-2016) and contrasts it with the two preceding cycles (1990-2001 and 2002-2008). It also identifies and attempts to explain some of the determinants of the cycle and outlines possible strategies for regaining growth. Part III contains notes relating to the economic performance of countries of the region.

Published since 1948 This is the sixty-eighth edition of the Economic Survey of Latin America and the Caribbean which corresponds to the year 2016 consists of three parts. Part I outlines the region’s economic performance in 2015 and analyses trends in the first half of 2016 as well as the outlook for the rest of the year. It examines the external and internal factors influencing the region’s economic performance and highlights some of the macroeconomic policy challenges that have arisen in an external context of weak growth and high levels of uncertainty. Part II analyses the challenges that the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean face at the domestic and international levels in mobilizing financing for development. On the domestic front slower growth and tighter fiscal restrictions pose significant challenges for the mobilization of resources. Externally the classification of many of the region’s countries in the middle-income category limits their access to concessional external financing or international support. Part III of this publication contains the notes relating to the economic performance of the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean in 2015 and the first half of 2016 together with their respective statistical annexes. The cut-off date for updating the statistical information in this publication was 30 June 2016.

Economic Survey of Latin America and the Caribbean 2010-2011
This publication is issued annually by the Economic Development Division of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC). This sixty-third edition of the Economic Survey looks at the nature of the recovery from the financial global and economic crisis whose fallout spread across the region in the second half of 2008 and in 2009. It also delves into the challenges posed by highly liquid conditions in international financial markets combined with high prices for the region’s key commodities. Finally it analyzes the situation in the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean during 2010 into the first part of 2011.

Economic Survey of Latin America and the Caribbean 2008-2009
This publication comes at a critical point in the economic development of the Latin American and Caribbean region. A growth phase that the region's recent history cannot equal in nature and duration has come to an end and output is contracting. The first part of this edition looks at the channels through which the crisis is affecting the economies of the region and its impact on variables such as economic growth employment and external-sector indicators. It also discusses the strengths and weaknesses of the countries and concludes with a discussion of the outlook for the second half of the year. The second part discusses policies for creating quality jobs including challenges and opportunities for labor institutions and labor markets labor-market policies for youth and women. This CD-ROM also contains the electronic versions of the printed publication. The statistical information reflects data available up to 30 June 2009.

The Economic Survey is one of ECLAC's flagship publications and has been issued since 1948. This new edition covers the region's economic performance in 2007 and the first semester of 2008 and suggests growth estimates for this year.

Economic Survey of Latin America and the Caribbean 2009-2010
In 2009 the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean experienced the brunt of the global financial crisis on their levels of activity. However since the second half of the that year most countries in the region just begun a vigorous recovery that should strengthen with a regional GDP expansion of approximately 5.2 per cent. The factors behind a more positive performance are both external and internal in nature. Amongst the former can be included the continued dynamism of some key Asian economies whose sustained demand for products from this region has created important conditions for a recovery in exports especially in the case of South America.

The publication surveys the main economic events and developments of 2006 and the first half of 2007 in the light of the region’s recent economic performance. The fifty-ninth edition of the survey is aimed to provide further inputs for the economic debates concerning means of promoting a rapid sustainable growth process capable of creating conditions conducive to an improvement in the living conditions in the region. It also describes various aspects of the regions economic growth dynamics. The tables provided in the statistical appendix provide ready access to data for recent years and facilitate the creation of spreadsheets. The edition is supplemented by a CD-ROM.

In 1988 the economic crisis of Latin America and the Caribbean took a dramatic turn. For the first time since the 1981-1983 recession the per capita product declined to a level equivalent to that of 1978; inflation almost quadrupled to an unprecedented average of 760% and real incomes declined in most of the countries.

In 1987 the acute economic crisis in which Latin America and the Caribbean have been plunged since the beginning of the decade worsened. At the same time as the rate of economic growth fell inflation sped up markedly and the results achieved by the external sector albeit more satisfactory were limited to a very small number of countries.

In 1986 the evolution of the Latin American economy was marked by contradictory changes. While the main variables used to measure domestic economic performance showed some improvement the situation of the external sector worsened considerably. Thus although the rate of economic growth picked up and unemployment and inflation slackened the terms of trade worsened the trade surplus fell and the balance-of-payments deficit increased sharply.
