Nuclear-Weapon-Free zones

Partial disarmament measures have been advocated within or outside the United Nations in parallel to more comprehensive approaches, such as general and complete disarmament, or pending their materialization. One of these measures is the establishment of nuclear-weapon-free zones, considered by many as a very practical means of preventing the horizontal proliferation of nuclear weapons through banning them from certain areas. In addition, the establishment of a nuclear-weapon-free zone is considered an effective means of assuring non-nuclear-weapon States in such a zone against the use of nuclear weapons, thus increasing their security.
