Work of the Advisory Board on disarmament studies

Following a decision taken by the General Assembly at its tenth special session, in 1978, an Advisory Board on Disarmament Studies was established as a group of eminent persons to advise the Secretary-General on various aspects of studies to be carried out under the auspices of the United Nations in the field of disarmament and arms limitation. New members were not appointed immediately after the expiration of Secretary-General Kurt Waldheim’s term of office at the end of 1981; consequently, the Board did not meet in 1982. Possible activities of the Advisory Board were discussed at the Assembly’s twelfth special session, in 1982, without tangible results.
