Social and Demographic Indicators

The number of pupils per teacher is one of the main factors influencing teaching quality. From 2000 to 2007, a study based on 43 African countries shows that there is a relatively constant increase in the pupil/teacher ratio in primary education. Such a situation leads to the conclusion that the continent is pushing towards higher enrolment rates for children rather than looking to increase teaching staff.
