Assessment of Development Results - Burkina Faso

This evaluation covers the period from 2002 to 2008. UNDP demonstrated comparative strengths in the domain of governance (support to the Parliament and decentralization). Another important contribution was to develop innovative pilot activities: the success obtained through multifunctional platforms to generate power and electricity in rural areas, the development of non-timber forest products or the support to civil society initiatives to fight HIV-AIDS epidemics have served as models for a number of other interventions and have attracted significant financing.

Conclusions and recommendations

The previous chapters present the main axes for UNDP contribution towards development results in Burkina Faso alongside several overviews of its main strategic position. The question of UNDP general contribution towards development in Burkina Faso is now being considered. As in the majority of countries, UNDP cannot influence Burkina Faso by its financial contribution. Burkina Faso is not a country in crisis or post-crisis, and the “neutrality” that is a distinctive characteristic of the United Nations and UNDP cannot have the same relevance as in a country in crisis.
