Nineteen sixty nine — penultimate year of the First Development Decade — was a year of mixed fortunes for the countries of Asia. In terms of the performance of national economies, output growth continued encouragingly for a second year: most countries in the region achieved rates of growth in national output greater than the target for the First Development Decade.
