Trade expansion and instability: national responses

The preceding chapters have examined patterns of growth of external trade in developing economies in the ESCAP region and related questions of instability and terms of trade. This chapter principally examines the evolution of trade policies adopted by these economies from the limited perspective of trade expansion. There is also a brief discussion of selected policy instruments for dealing with instability in earnings from exports.
