Published since 1948, this report examines various aspects of the previous year’s macroeconomic situation in the region and makes projections for the coming months. The study also includes country notes that review the performance of the main economic indicators in the period analysed.

Agriculture: Present situation and trends

Any analysis of the crisis in Latin American agriculture should begin by reviewing the pattern of agriculture and livestock production over the past few decades. For this purpose, it may be useful to evaluate the effects of agricultural development on over-all economic growth and on the living levels of the Latin American population, and to determine whether production has expanded sufficiently to satisfy the needs of the region’s increasing population, whether those gains have been relatively the same in the various countries and in the different groups of products and whether efficiency has improved.
