Before examining the economic situation in Latin America in 1979, and in order to provide a global framework for the subsequent analysis, it is desirable to review briefly world economic trends during that year. The review will cover trends in economic growth, inflation, international trade and external financing in the industrialized countries, the centrally-planned economics and the oil-exporting and non-oil-exporting developing countries.
