Issued in two volumes - volume I gives insight into the economic trends, the international economy and the role of exchange rate policy in Latin America and the Caribbean. Volume II explores the economic developments by country. Complimentary statistical tables are included.

Costa Rica

Stimulated by favourable trends in investment and exports, the Costa Rican economy again grew significantly in 1993, this time at a rate of nearly 6%. Inflation fell to 9%, actually below the target rate, representing a substantial reduction. Exchange rate policy and a reduction in the overall public sector deficit contributed to this result, even though the deficit slightly exceeded the 1% of GDP stipulated in the agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
