An examination of the Intrastat system of the European Union is of particular importance for illustrating (a) the challenge of implementing of a statistical system for a customs union while maintaining full trade information on its individual member countries and (b) the use of enterprise surveys for data collection. In addition, this chapter offers lessons learned on data processing and quality control.
