The Investment Policy Review on Sri Lanka provides an overview of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) on the Island, including the most recent trends and developments. The publication examines the legal investment framework currently in place and identifies new areas of high FDI potential. The Review is intended to improve Sri Lanka’s investment policies and to inform the international private sector of its investment environment.

Key economic and social indicators

Sri Lanka,an island situated off the southern tip of India, has an area of 65,000 square kilometres and a population of 19 million. It became independent in 1948. The Executive consists of the President, who is elected by direct suffrage and appoints the Prime Minister, chairs Cabinet meetings and retains the right to dissolve Parliament. The Parliament comprises 225 representatives who are elected through proportional representation.
