Children, poverty and risk factors

The first half of the 1990s was marked by a decline in both the percentage and number of Poor children in the countries of the region with the lowest levels of poverty; in the countries with higher levels of poverty, however, the number of poor children measured in absolute and relative terns either showed no change or actually increased. The same trend was also seen in respect of children living in households suffering from critical deficiencies in infrastructure and basic services, as well as insufficient incomes.
