The World Economic Survey 1993 is the forty-sixth annual report of the United Nations Secretariat on the major developments and issues in the world economy. Despite strong growth in a number of developing countries, in 1993, for the third year in a row, the growth of the world output will fall below the growth of world population.

Undernourishment and famine in developing countries

One of the great anachronisms of the present day is that, while the world produces enough food to meet the requirements ofits entire population, a large number ofpeople, mostly in devcloping countries, go hungry or are malnourished and many still starve to death every year. This anachronism was emphasized in the World Declaration on Nutrition, adopted at the 1992 International Conference on Nutrition.
