Since the time of the fi rst Environmental Performance Reviews (EPR) in 2002, major steps have been taken to strengthen the country’s participation in international environmental agreements. The status of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia as a candidate for accession to the European Union (EU) since 2005, has contributed largely to the country’s progress in terms of implementation of international agreements and commitments.
