Road traffic is the major source of air pollution in Georgia, followed by the energy sector and industry. Traffic intensity is high in larger cities and, in extreme cases, it amounts to 60,000 vehicles per day (e.g. in Tbilisi). Georgia has about 3000 stationary sources of air pollution in its main industrial sectors such as energy, iron and steel, chemical and petrochemical, timber and paper, and food. At present, however, few are working at full capacity.
