Located in South-Eastern Europe, the Republic of Moldova is bordered on the west by Romania and on the north, south, and east by Ukraine. As Romania is expecting to join the European Union (EU) in 2007, the country should shortly become an EU neighbour country. This geographic location and expected new political context are key determinants for the current and further development of the country’s international cooperation.
