Persistent organic pollutants (POPs), as their names suggest, remain in the environmental matrices and biota for a considerable length of time (United Nations Environment Programme). Suitable analytical methods are therefore necessary to monitor the presence of these chemicals so as to track their fate and occurrence spatially and temporally.
