Progress in African integration is mixed across sectors, regional economic communities, and member states. There have been some strides in trade, communications, macro economic policy, and transport, but integration has lagged in energy, manufacturing, and food and agriculture. Some regional economic communities have excelled in trade liberalization, free movement of people, infrastructure, and peace and security, but others have not.
