The WTO Agreements have a general impact on all industrial sectors. The objective of the World Trading System is to liberalize trade among WTO Members within a framework of fair competition and non-discrimination. For instance, commitments undertaken by WTO member countries on reduction of import tariffs and elimination of non-tariff barriers have stimulated competition for producers in their own markets and in third markets. The progressive reduction of subsidies has increased fair competition in the world market. The liberalization in service sectors has increased flows of investment across borders.
