image of External Trade Bulletin of the ESCWA Region, Twentieth Issue

This Bulletin presents data and statistical indicators on external trade in goods of ESCWA member countries. Data are presented in time series until 2010 and were drawn primarily from national sources, as well as from secondary sources where appropriate. The Bulletin comprises three parts: Part I on external trade statistics, Part II on intraregional trade, and Part III on the direction of trade. ESCWA hopes that this Bulletin, which provides total and detailed data on intraregional and international trade of member countries, would be useful to policymakers, analysts and researchers and other users at the national, regional and international levels.

Intraregional trade of ESCWA member countries

Due to strong demand, ESCWA region’s global and regional trade had largely recovered and intraregional trade in nonoil products has shown improved performance during 2010 in all the countries where data were available. Although the overall picture for the region’s share of intraregional trade in non-oil products to total trade still pointing to under-utilized potential, ESCWA’s intraregional trade development in recent years gives clear evidence of increased integration and reliance on the region’s markets especially for the region’s national exports in terms of both value and share of total exports.
