Foreign investment in metal mining

This chapter looks at key aspects of the processes that have transformed global metal markets and examines their relationship with foreign investment in Latin American and Caribbean economies. Considering that several of the region’s countries are major producers of metallic minerals, the study focuses on those that are of greatest significance for international exports, notably precious metals (such as gold and silver), base metals (such as bauxite, zinc, copper, tin, nickel and lead) and ferrous metals (chiefly iron ore).
