With a population of approximately 13 million and a strong Mayan indigenous culture, macroeconomic stabilization has been a key factor in the country’s economic growth. Sugar, coffee and bananas are the prime products of Guatemala’s agricultural sector, which drives employment. However, it is the services sector which is the country’s most important economic sector, accounting for approximately 60% of Guatemala’s GDP in 2007.
