It provides recommendations for SME support institutions as a basis for designing technical assistance services for the business sector. The publication also presents case studies illustrating active participation of trade support institutions in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

Creating awareness of IT opportunities

From studying SME perceptions, it is possible to discern several areas in which SMEs are being constrained in their use of IT simply because of a lack of information and awareness about the realities surrounding these tools. The IT sector has an additional complicating factor: the swiftness with which it advances. This factor drew the following comments from SME respondents:
