This Smart Sustainable City Profile presents the outcomes of the city evaluation against the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for Smart Sustainable Cities (SSCs) and proposes actions to improve progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Based on the KPI evaluation this profile makes a series of recommendations to further accelerate the progress of Nur-Sultan towards achieving the SDGs. They suggest improvements in areas such as solid waste management public building sustainability urban and spatial planning decent-quality affordable housing and the availability of urban data.

Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan is located in Central Asia south of the Russian Federation and west of China. At the southern border it neighbors three other Central Asian countries: Turkmenistan Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. The country extends over about 2.7 million square kilometers as large as Western Europe. While the country does not face any ocean it borders the Caspian Sea an enormous landlocked salt lake surrounded by Kazakhstan the Russian Federation Azerbaijan Islamic Republic of Iran and Turkmenistan.
Overview of the State of Forests and Forest Management in Kazakhstan
The overview of the State of Forests and Forest Management in Kazakhstan aims to present the forest resources and the forest sector of the country including trends in and pressures on the resource to describe the policies and institutions for the forest sector and to list the major challenges the sector faces and the policy responses in place or planned. The study is a cooperative effort by the author the UNECE/FAO secretariat and national experts done with the use of the best available data. It attempts to cover all dimensions of sustainable forest management.
