The CRC calls for States to establish a separate juvenile justice system. Any child who is alleged as, accused of or recognized as having committed a criminal offence should be treated in a manner that promotes the child’s sense of dignity and worth, reinforcing the child’s respect for the human rights and fundamental freedoms of others, and that takes into account the age of the child and his or her social reintegration, and the child’s possibility of assuming a constructive role in society.
