In March 2000, Valentina Nikolaeva Bevacqua left her marital home in Bulgaria with her young son, after years of suffering abuse at the hands of her husband and moved into her parents’ apartment. She filed for divorce the same day and sought an interim custody order. Despite clear evidence of abuse, every stage of the justice chain failed her.
