Legal questions

By an Application of 19 June 1962, the Belgian Government claimed reparation for the damage allegedly sustained by Belgian nationals, share-holders in the Barcelona Traction, Light and Power Company, Limited—a company incorporated in Canada—as a result of acts said to be contrary to international law committed towards the company by organs of the Spanish State. This claim arose out of the adjudication in bankruptcy by a Spanish court of the Barcelona Traction, Light and Power Company. (A previous case, which had been brought before the Court in 1958, was removed from the list in 1961 after discontinuance of the proceedings by the Belgian Government.)
