Activities of the United Nations educational, scientific and cultural organization related to disarmament

During 1984, the activities of UNESCO in the field of disarmament included the implementation of resolution 20 C/22, adopted by the General Conference at its twenty-second session, entitled “Role of UNESCO in generating a climate of public opinion conducive to the halting of the arms race and the transition to disarmament” Under the terms of that resolution, the General Conference invited the Director-General, inter alia, “(a) to take the necessary steps to give effect to the relevant resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly which concern disarmament and fall within UNESCO’s spheres of competence”.
