In the face of challenges to regional and global security, the international community must step up efforts to ensure a comprehensive approach to the non-proliferation cause. UNSCR 1540 plays a significant role in enhancing international consensus and cooperation on non-proliferation. It is therefore incumbent on Member States to take steps to implement the resolution through improved export control legislations, strengthened domestic administration and control and international cooperation based on equality and mutual benefit. The 1540 Committee should draw up an effective work plan that would encourage more countries to submit carefully reviewed national reports that includes constructive advice on ways to implement the resolutions.
