The definite deterioration of the Bolivian economy in 1980 was mainly characterized by a very weak growth in the gross domestic product and by stagnation, or even contraction, of the most important activities of production. Along with the economic recession appeared high rates of open unemployment in particularly vulnerable sectors such as construction.
